CPC Youth “Playoff Season” in Full Effect

CPC Youth “Playoff Season” in Full Effect

Summer is what I like to call affectionately our “Playoff Season.” As professional athletes live for the playoff season, CPC Youth lives for the summer. Everything we schedule seeks to experience and extend the grace of Jesus Christ to Columbia, the region, and the rest of the world as we engage in worship, discipleship, and mission.

Our CPC Youth Worship Band is now formally part of the rotation on Sunday Mornings as they lead the congregation in corporate worship throughout the summer. It is a special time and our youth love serving in this manner. Please continue to pray for these youth as they lead and grow in their understanding of worship and fellowship together.

In addition to our regularly scheduled large group meetings, we will be having our 4th annual summer retreat in August. This year’s theme will focus on discipleship. We will be spending four days and three nights in Carlisle, PA, worshipping together and hearing from our guest speaker, Pastor Bobby Suh, who is the Pastor of Discipleship at Christ Central Presbyterian Church in Centreville, VA.  With a guest live worship band, time for prayer, games, and so much more, we are so excited to get our kids jump started for the school season!

Our two summer interns, Katie Shilling and Elijah Perry, are leading a weekly summer Bible study on Tuesdays from 10:30am-12:00pm. With both middle and high schoolers together, this is a wonderful fellowship for our church family to learn more about Christ in the book of Mark. These intimate times of sharing and prayer, mixed with fun help our interns invest in the lives of our students.

Our Shine and Revolution groups have been enjoying our annual pool parties, hosted by the Shipe family. We are grateful for their hospitality as we get to spend some summer fun together while saying goodbye and hello to our new batch of middle and high schoolers. We also will have a Back to School bash hosted by the Johnson family on August 30th. These large gatherings help our youth enjoy one another and understand the importance of church community and fellowship.

We recently spent six days with forty middle school students from all over Maryland in Vacation Bible School. We got to spend that time talking about their identity in Christ and seeing Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Our Shine volunteers and interns joined in on the fun leading small groups, helping with crafts, playing games and praying with our students from all over the region. This year’s theme was “Into the Wild.” We explored various stories of Jesus demonstrating how he is truly God, being sent to save us from our sins and carry out the love and justice of God through his death on the cross and resurrection from the grave.

Our fourth annual short term missions season was capped on July 12th for a special send off night with both of our teams. These teams spent the last three months in preparation with prayer, fundraising, and biblical instruction on evangelism and missions. It was a touching night filled with testimonies and prayers for those who will be sent as our students and supporters got a taste of what we will be doing in both of these contexts.

Please pray that our youth would discover and experience the joy of fulfilling the Great Commission:

  • North Carolina Missions Team will be in Haywood County, North Carolina from July 21st to the 27th
  • Peru Missions Team will be be gone from August 18th-31st

Pray For Us!

The summer is truly a wonderful season of growing in the grace of the gospel. We are so excited for all the ways that they are participating in the vision of our church to experience and extend the grace of Jesus Christ for these short three months. We hope that you can join us in prayer for our youth as they pack these days with more than just memories, but a lifetime of walking with Christ in his body.

For His Glory,

John Song
Associate Pastor of Youth Ministries
