Worship

Sunday's message

Rev. Stu Jones will be preaching on "The Wilderness Church " from I Corinthians 10:1-13. Please read I Corinthians chapter 10, and ask God to prepare your heart for hearing this message from His Word.

Children's Worship

Children will worship with their families this Sunday, August 1.

Lord's Supper on Sunday, August 8

We will celebrate the Lord's Supper next Sunday, August 8, at 6:30 p.m., at Rolling Hills. Click here to learn more about the Lord's Supper.

Facility and Transition

Meet new people this Sunday!

Over the first weeks at River Hill God has brought new visitors to join us in worship. Each week we have people walk over from the track to ask what is going on, and some have even stopped in during the sermon. This week we would like to encourage you to meet people you don't know. They may be longtime members that worshiped in another service, or they may be a first-time guest. God has provided a great opportunity at River Hill to reach new people. Let's be faithful to reach out to those that join us for worship each Sunday. Thank you each for the role you play in the body of Christ.

Facility updates

Praise God for answered prayer on the Phase 2 Project!

Hallelujah! We have received the commitment letter from the bank for the full requested construction loan amount of $3.5M, followed by a permanent mortgage with terms as expected. Be encouraged that the bank believes we have an incredibly generous congregation and that the giving is well above standards, for which ALL the glory goes to our great God in heaven!

We are finalizing the contract with Scott-Long Construction this week and hope to have it ready for signature by the Board of Trustees meeting this Saturday. Additionally, the surveying is complete, the construction trailer and temporary utilities have been installed, and the site clearing has begun.

To view the latest  Phase 2 timeline or other information on the CPC building plans, click here.

Phase 2 YTD giving through July 25, 2010 is $82,964.

Needs

Trailer towing

We are still looking for volunteers to tow the trailers. Right now we have 4 people with vehicles able to tow. We would like to double that list.

The trailers weigh around 3,000 pounds. We have one dedicated to the worship equipment, and one dedicated to the nursery and children's church equipment and supplies. It seems to work best if we have 2 volunteers each week, one to tow each trailer. This allows us to leave the trailers hitched up for unloading and reloading (trailers don't pivot on the wheels while stuff is being wheeled in and out we save all the time hitching and unhitching multiple times).

If you have a vehicle able to tow and are willing to volunteer your time during our transition period, please contact Eric Johnston.

Library help

Our library needs volunteers. No special skills are required.  All ages.   We also need a new librarian.  If you love books, have some computer skills, and enjoy organization, please consider this position.  To begin as a new library volunteer or librarian, or for any questions, please email Jessica Reichenbach or phone her at 301.543.1961.

Pioneer Girls is looking for 1st & 2nd grade (Voyager) leaders for this fall! If you're interested or have questions, please email Christina Rushing or phone her at 410.747.4206. Thanks!

Prayer

Please join us in prayer--be a link in our prayer chain.
Columbia Presbyterian Church Prayer Chain is the channel for getting prayer requests to our members and friends. To be added to the Prayer Chain email distribution list simply send an email to the office. Besides individual prayer requests sent to the office, you will get a weekly prayer guide. This is normally sent out mid-week.

Prayer chain guidelines
In order to keep our prayer load realistic, requests that we circulate on the prayer chain should be for a member of CPC, a regular visitor to CPC, or someone in their immediate family (parent, grandparent, spouse, children, grandchildren, sibling, niece, or nephew).

from Chapelgate Christian Academy:  Can you help CCA impact the world by hosting an exchange student?

Christ calls us to impact the world. Sometimes it can seem difficult to do so in our hectic family schedules. Hosting an exchange student brings the world to you! I would like to encourage not only our Chapelgate Christian Academy families but also our surrounding Christian community to consider being a host family for an international student for this coming school year. You do not have to have a student at the Academy in order to be a host family. We have Chapelgate Academy families, Christian families who homeschool, and Christian families who have students in public school that have all participated in this ministry. Here is what one CCA family had to say about hosting:

"I will tell anyone who is thinking about hosting to do it! It is an unforgettable experience and it will change you and your family for the better. The moments my family and the students experienced together are priceless and inexplicably amazing."

When a family hosts an international student, they are given a monthly stipend to help cover the cost of food and transportation, so please don't let money keep you from hosting.

Please find below four exchange students with immediate placement needs.

Seokju Lee will be a new student to CCA entering the 9th grade.  He wrote the following paragraph about himself.  My name is Seokju Lee and my English name is John Lee. I am Korean. My family is father, mother and two elder brothers. My father is a Civil Engineer and is operating the engineering works design company. I like reading books. When I was young I played the piano, but now I prefer to play the clarinet. I do enjoy computer games but try not to play them to much because my parents do not like me to. My mother is praying for my new host family.

Jeamin Park will be a returning CCA student entering the 10th grade.  He wrote the following letter.
Dear Potential Host family,
Hello,
I'm Jeamin Park from South Korea. I attend Chapegate Christian Academy and just finished the 9th grade. I'd like to live with an American host family for my 10th grade year.My hobbies are to play sports like soccer and Badminton, to listen to all kinds of music, and to sing. Therefore, I'm going to try out for the Varsity soccer team and the chamber choir in my 10th grade year. Also. I'm good at working with the computer. If my host family has a problem with the computer, I can help them. Lastly, I'd like to have a great relationship with my new host family.
Thanks,
P.S. I will be ready to move to a host family on August 26th.

Paul Joo will be a retuning CCA student entering the 9th grade.  Paul who is from Korea spent his 8th grade year at CCA and he lived with Phil and Karen Lazzo. He really became part of this host family and they enjoyed each other very much. However, they will be moving this summer and will not be able to host again.  Paul likes to play games and plays the saxophone in band. He is well-liked at CCA. He wrote the following letter:  Hi, My name is Paul Joo. I'm from South Korea. I go to Chapelgate Christian Academy. I am going on to 9th grade. I have been to US for almost a year. I had good time since I came to US. Actually, I don’t speak well in English so I'm trying to find a new American homestay family to get use to it with English. Thanks.   By Paul Joo

Joseph Hahn will be a new student at CCA entering the 9th grade. Joseph has just been accepted to CCA.  We are waiting to get more information on his personal interest, hobbies, and a letter to his host family.

Please contact me as soon as possible if this is something your family would like to be part of or if you would like to learn more about this program!

Thank you,
